Welcome to the CUPC website

CUPC governs the sport of Pool within the University of Cambridge, right from the grassroots college level through to the University teams which compete in the local leagues, BUSA championships, and the annual Varsity Match against Oxford.

Pool has been growing in popularity for a number of years within the University; there are usually around 55-60 college teams which compete in 5 divisions, and a large and active University-wide singles ladder. The national Universities pool scene is also thriving thanks to the efforts over the past few years of the Universities Pool Council, who have recently established annual BUSA-recognised championships.

Cuppers and Plate

The cuppers and plate draws are now up here. Captains should receive an email shortly with details.

Singles ladders

The university and university women's are now taking entries for the coming season.

The ladders are the best way to get good match practice against experienced players, and the only way to guarantee qualification for the CU Masters tournament and the Varsity match. To join a ladder just log in and click on one of the empty ladder spaces.

Snooker

The CUPC is now hosting a university snooker ladder. Join now to get the highest places.

A belated congratulations to Ali Argo who won the recent CU Open. Ali once again beat Paul Thomas in the final, taking his second trophy from two CUPC tournaments and becoming only the third person to hold the Masters and Open titles at the same time.

Congratulations also to Tim Henshaw, who won the plate event, and to Steve McCann who won the straight pool competition.

And so the 2008/2009 season comes to an end. Many congratulations to Robinson I for winning Division 1. Well done to Selwyn I, Queens' I and Peterhouse III for winning promotion from Divisions 2A/2B, and to Pembroke 2, CU Women 1, Emma 2 and Selwyn 2, Trinity Hall 1, Pembroke 3 from Divisions 3A and 3B respectively.

Comiserations go to Magdalene 1, Catz 1, Peterhouse 2 (Division 1); to Fitz 2, King's 2, St John's 2 (Division 2A) and to Sidney 1, Trinity 4 and Emma 1 (Division 2B) for not quite securing safety and being relegated.

Please note, where teams from the same college have crossed, (e.g. Peterhouse 2 relegated and Peterhouse 3 promoted), the teams will be renamed to follow the league pecking order.

All the captains that I am currently aware of have until WEDNESDAY 24th OCTOBER to
confirm they have read the league rules after which they will be fined points proportional to the number of days they have gone without doing so after the 24th.

Captains that are appointed later on to teams currently without a captain will have a deadline for this imposed starting from when I hear from them.

Entries are being taken for the new season.
Deadline for team registration is Wednesday 17th October.

To enter a team please send the captain's name and email address to cupcls@googlemail.com.

League fees are £20 per team and cheques made payable to 'Cambridge University Pool Club' should be sent to Matt Cullen at Fitzwilliam College.

Deadline for paying league fees is Wednesday 24th October at which point teams that haven't paid will be removed from the league.

There are major changes and additions to the League Rules this year and all captains are required to read them. The league rules can be found at: http://www.srcf.ucam.org/cupc/college/leaguerules.php

Captains will be asked to send a confirmation email that they have read and understood the league rules prior to the season starting. Please note that this is a requisite of entering a team this year and is not optional.
