Hey Matt, good to hear from you. When I saw the thread title I thought you might be asking about yourself! Still plenty around who remember the Cullen era :p. I do vaguely remember Thomas I think - tall blonde guy, played with a glove? Pretty sure he played in the novices tournament when I was a fresher, and he was definitely on the ladder. Never played him though.

Week 8 - Uni A 9-3 KSR A Can't complain. It went 2-0, 2-2, 4-2, 4-3 before we reeled off the last 5 frames for a comfortable win against one of the better teams in the league, and I think we deserved it. That's three wins from our last three and should put us squarely mid-table with plenty of time to rise futher. That's it for the leagues in 2009, I hope when we come back we can pick up

It was a quality dish - even if you do say so yourself Good fun last night. It looked like it might be comfortable at 4-0 up but I thought we did well to survive their comeback and get the two points. The league table still puts us third from bottom, but apart from CSC A languishing on 2 points and the Moon running away with it on 11, it's all very tight. We're only 3 points behind the sec

Hi Stephen. We haven't set a date for finals night yet but it will be some time in the second week of June. Div 2 playoffs will be on the same day if possible. Thanks for getting your team's matches played in good time btw.

Afaik the other Riley's is staying open. They also have an 'A1 pool club', don't know if that's any good. They should be able to manage but it'll be a blow.

30 clubs have ceased trading immediately, the other 129 have been swallowed up by a new company. Interestingly Oxford Colours is amongst those to close. That's OUPC's regular venue, and it's where they usually host Varsity.

Cuppers and Plate draws 2008 - 15 years ago

Here's the draw for the college league knockout competitions. College 1st teams and the CU Women have been entered into cuppers, other college teams including women's teams have been entered into the Plate. Good day for the uni at the open yesterday. Steve McCann reached the final with victories over Ed Savory, Joey Wong and Paul Reed only to be stopped by form man and defending champion Michael O'Boyle (MOTM A) who played superbly all day to retain his title. Graham and I also reached the quarter finals and Tom Stephens, Tim Henshaw and Josh Cadney won their opening matches.

CAPL competitions - 15 years ago

The draws have been done for the Cambridge area competitions - pretty good turnout for the uni this year. I also still have one more place at the CAPL Open available if anyone wants it - first come first served. Well played again guys. Good to see you starting to get the results you deserve. Keep it up The A's had an absolute nightmare against Tev Con A. We were 6-0 down at half time after being ahead in most of the frames, losing them either through mistakes or just bad luck. Cheers for the report Chris, I hadn't heard the result. Brilliant work to pull out a win from 5-1 down. Our match against the White Lion was tight all the way through (level at 1, 2, 4 and 5 frames each) but we eventually won the last two for a 7-5 victory. We missed a few chances to pull away earlier but all in all I think we can be happy with two points against a quality team.

As some people might have noticed, the main ladder is now active. Feel free to start making and playing challenges. I've added everyone who was at the novices' tournament, I thought it was easier to do it that way than to wait for confirmations from everyone. If you'd like to be removed just let me know. It's all over! Congrats to Relja on becoming Novices' champion. Special mention also to Chris who was playing under world rules for the first time and came very close to winning the event. The overall standard was good too and we've come away with a list of people who could strengthen the university teams this year

An important part of the event from our perspective is that we get to see first hand the standard of players we don't really know, and that includes most of the CAPL/BUSA B+C squads, as well as college pool veterans and of course freshers. Singles ladders 08/09 - 15 years ago

Entries are now being taken for the university and university women's singles ladders. They're free, and you can play as many or as few matches as you like. Entries received before the start of the season will be seeded according to previous performance and experience. Later entries will be added to the bottom of the ladder, so it's best to get in now. Novices' Tournament 2008 - 15 years ago

The annual novices' tournament will be held shortly, with a provisional date of Sunday, October 12th. Anyone who has never played for Cambridge in varsity and never played in the CUPC Masters tournament is eligible to enter. Other than that, people of all standards and experience levels are welcome.
