Hey Matt, good to hear from you. When I saw the thread title I thought you might be asking about yourself! Still plenty around who remember the Cullen era :p. I do vaguely remember Thomas I think - tall blonde guy, played with a glove? Pretty sure he played in the novices tournament when I was a fresher, and he was definitely on the ladder. Never played him though.by Rob Hogan - Off Topic
Week 8 - Uni A 9-3 KSR A Can't complain. It went 2-0, 2-2, 4-2, 4-3 before we reeled off the last 5 frames for a comfortable win against one of the better teams in the league, and I think we deserved it. That's three wins from our last three and should put us squarely mid-table with plenty of time to rise futher. That's it for the leagues in 2009, I hope when we come back we can pick upby Rob Hogan - General Board
It was a quality dish - even if you do say so yourself Good fun last night. It looked like it might be comfortable at 4-0 up but I thought we did well to survive their comeback and get the two points. The league table still puts us third from bottom, but apart from CSC A languishing on 2 points and the Moon running away with it on 11, it's all very tight. We're only 3 points behind the secby Rob Hogan - General Board
QuoteTim Henshaw I wonder what'll happen if I try to restart the tradition of using this forum to report CAPL matches...! Great win for the As last week - beat the workies 7-5. We were 5-1 and 6-3 up but struggled over the line from 6-5. Good idea, but if you're gonna do it do it right - I'm pretty sure we were 6-1 up and got over the line at 7-4 before giving them the last out of pity. Massiby Rob Hogan - General Board
Hi Stephen. We haven't set a date for finals night yet but it will be some time in the second week of June. Div 2 playoffs will be on the same day if possible. Thanks for getting your team's matches played in good time btw.by Rob Hogan - Cuppers and Plate
Afaik the other Riley's is staying open. They also have an 'A1 pool club', don't know if that's any good. They should be able to manage but it'll be a blow.by Rob Hogan - General Board
30 clubs have ceased trading immediately, the other 129 have been swallowed up by a new company. Interestingly Oxford Colours is amongst those to close. That's OUPC's regular venue, and it's where they usually host Varsity.by Rob Hogan - General Board
Glad you enjoyed it Ali. I was really very impressed by the way you played last night and I hope you'll stick with the club. From a captain's perspective it's fantastic to see a previously unknown player do so well. QuoteAlistair Argo...Cheers Paul-I thoroughly enjoyed the final as well, particularly after my first two matches, which were so tactical. This could be my new favourite quote! Back off Luke . He's ours. We've got our home match to Tev Con (aka Romsey Lab) who beat us 9-3 at their place last time. I'm sure I can squeeze you in (in fact the way I've played this season you're welcome to my spot).by Rob Hogan - General Board
Good win again guys - muppetry or not . Good work getting a team out at this time of the year too - who else played? Do you all live in Cambridge?by Rob Hogan - General Board
QuoteGraham Sills who won, then? I left when it was just the 3 robs still in it. I did. Allen beat Cork 7-5 then I beat Allen 8-2, though to be fair he was exhausted. I'll put the results up on the site tomorrow. Josh Cadney won the plate, and Paul Thomas won the straight pool. Thanks to Steve for doing all of the organisation and allowing me to focus on the pool, and thanks to everyone elsby Rob Hogan - General Board
QuoteGraham SillsGood of you to put Trinity in the other half from King's and Queens' Scared? Queens' did have four people in the second round of the open on saturday (honourable mention to James Maynard who only went down 3-2 in the first round, while drunk and with a broken hand) . We may have somewhat failed to get promoted to div 1 last season but we're well up for a cuppers defence. Quoby Rob Hogan - Cuppers and Plate
Here's the draw for the college league knockout competitions. College 1st teams and the CU Women have been entered into cuppers, other college teams including women's teams have been entered into the Plate. Both draws were done randomly this morning by myself (with witnesses) on behalf of the League Secretary, Paul Thomas. The team listed first in each fixture is the home team. QuoteRob Cork Given that I'm still waiting for my viva and therefore technically still here, I'd like to play - count me in! Well that makes things interesting . Be great to have you there Rob.by Rob Hogan - General Board

Good day for the uni at the open yesterday. Steve McCann reached the final with victories over Ed Savory, Joey Wong and Paul Reed only to be stopped by form man and defending champion Michael O'Boyle (MOTM A) who played superbly all day to retain his title. Graham and I also reached the quarter finals and Tom Stephens, Tim Henshaw and Josh Cadney won their opening matches.by Rob Hogan - General Board
Let this be the official thread for the CU Open 2008. You can post your intent to enter or ask questions here, or by emailing me at rh389. Hope to see lots of you there.by Rob Hogan - General Board
The draws have been done for the Cambridge area competitions - pretty good turnout for the uni this year. I also still have one more place at the CAPL Open available if anyone wants it - first come first served. All of the draws with uni players highlighted are attached to this post, or you can read through them on the CAPL site. Well played again guys. Good to see you starting to get the results you deserve. Keep it up The A's had an absolute nightmare against Tev Con A. We were 6-0 down at half time after being ahead in most of the frames, losing them either through mistakes or just bad luck. I still felt we had a chance to get the draw but at 6-2 down I went in off a double kissed yellow when potting the black to gby Rob Hogan - General Board
Cheers for the report Chris, I hadn't heard the result. Brilliant work to pull out a win from 5-1 down. Our match against the White Lion was tight all the way through (level at 1, 2, 4 and 5 frames each) but we eventually won the last two for a 7-5 victory. We missed a few chances to pull away earlier but all in all I think we can be happy with two points against a quality team.by Rob Hogan - General Board
As some people might have noticed, the main ladder is now active. Feel free to start making and playing challenges. I've added everyone who was at the novices' tournament, I thought it was easier to do it that way than to wait for confirmations from everyone. If you'd like to be removed just let me know. Seedings have been done on the basis of previous positions, uni experience and performby Rob Hogan - Singles Ladder
It's all over! Congrats to Relja on becoming Novices' champion. Special mention also to Chris who was playing under world rules for the first time and came very close to winning the event. Full results are here. Thanks to everyone who came - the turnout was excellent. The overall standard was good too and we've come away with a list of people who could strengthen the university teams this yearby Rob Hogan - General Board
Cheers everyone. I just sent some extra details out by email - here they are: Play will start at noon and we expect to have a winner by 6pm, the draw will be made at 11:45 so everyone needs to be there by then. If you're running late on the day or know now that you won't be able to make that time please let me know and we'll try to fit you in - otherwise we'll have to assume you're not comby Rob Hogan - General Board
I think Rob Cork wrote that page but I'm sure he'd be happy for it to be used in a college. Feel free.by Rob Hogan - CUPC website
Cheers Mike, I've put you up. QuoteRob Allen Rob pot machine Hogan, just to let you know that Mads Gjefson has left cambridge for norway, so remove him. Yeah you're eligible Laurence, thanks for signing up. An important part of the event from our perspective is that we get to see first hand the standard of players we don't really know, and that includes most of the CAPL/BUSA B+C squads, as well as college pool veterans and of course freshers. So yeah you're very welcome. So far I've heard from: Steve Dickinson Vin Shen Ban Kunal Guhaby Rob Hogan - General Board
Entries are now being taken for the university and university women's singles ladders. They're free, and you can play as many or as few matches as you like. Entries received before the start of the season will be seeded according to previous performance and experience. Later entries will be added to the bottom of the ladder, so it's best to get in now. The annual novices' tournament will be held shortly, with a provisional date of Sunday, October 12th. Anyone who has never played for Cambridge in varsity and never played in the CUPC Masters tournament is eligible to enter. Other than that, people of all standards and experience levels are welcome. As usual there will be a group stage and a knockout stage with everyone guaranteed at least thby Rob Hogan - General Board
