Given that I'm still waiting for my viva and therefore technically still here, I'd like to play - count me in!by Rob Cork - General Board
Congrats to the B team on getting through to the semis, sounds like a fantastic performance! Fingers crossed that the A team wins on sunday now, after the weekend's BUSA exploits...by Rob Cork - University CAPL Teams
I don't think we keep track of stats like that, but it could be fun! Difficult to really verify though... Personally, the biggest break I think I've done was 11, potting 3 balls of one colour from the break and then clearing the other colour up, and potting the black. Can't remember if I've had 12 or not (i.e. 4 of one colour off the break). I've done all 15 from the break many times in prby Rob Cork - College Leagues
I'll get the results up soon on the website, probably over the weekend at some point - I've been really busy this week, lost of undergrads to teach!by Rob Cork - Ask the committee!
Yeah, tuesday is going to be a key match in the season for us. We showed great team spirit last night, but we shouldn't get carried away - we were still relying a little too much on our opponent's mistakes in order to win the frames, I think we really need to focus on putting the other player under more pressure. Against the MOTM A, KSR A, and Rathmore we won't get nearly as many chances, so weby Rob Cork - University CAPL Teams
QuoteYes you can. In an "open table" situation you do not have to nominate. You only nominate in 2 instances: 1) When you pot off the break. 2) When you have an open table and pot a ball of each colour in the same shot. Are you sure about 2)? I was under the impression that you can pot (for example) a red and yellow, then carry on with an open table, pot another red and yellow, and sby Rob Cork - General Board
That's perfectly legal on an open table - there's a common misconception with World Rules that you have to nominate if it's an open table, but that's not the case. The only time you ever have to nominate in World Rules is if you've just broken and potted one or more balls. For any visit after the break, if it's an open table you don't have to nominate, so planting one colour onto another for aby Rob Cork - General Board
Entry is included in your league fees, so there's no extra cost! Sorry, we should have made this clear at the time, but I guess it'll be a nice surprise for everyoneby Rob Cork - Cuppers and Plate
Woo, come on Newnham! Once I get my spirit level over there and level the table, it should be the best playing surface in the uni - everyone should come to Newnham bar ;Dby Rob Cork - College Leagues
I may be there if the weather's crap, but otherwise I ought to get busy with my garden...by Rob Cork - General Board
QuoteAnd who was that 5-4 defeat to last year Rob ;-)... I wonder if it might have been Pembroke? We're going to do the reverse this year - lose to you 5-4 and then take the title with marvelous wins for the rest of the year. Maybe I'm just wishful thinking though! It was indeed, but I seem to remember that I didn't play in that match... In all seriousness, as Matt says Division 1 is lookinby Rob Cork - College Leagues
QuoteGood start by the new boys, Girton and Selwyn - could they possibly be a threat for the coveted title? They could be, if it wasn't for the fact that Robinson already have it sewn up. Peterhouse played well to beat us 5-4, but I'm confident we'll get better results when we start playing our home matches. It's actually possible to control where the white ball goes on our table, which shoulby Rob Cork - College Leagues
Awesome film, somehow managed to get tickets for a few preview screening early in october, so I saw it a while ago! The guy is a genius, there's some truly classic moments - the 'altercation' with his producer in the hotel room being one of my favourites, if a bit difficult to watch ;Dby Rob Cork - Off Topic
Yeah, Adrian used to be at Robinson 94-97, played varsity in his last two years and was vice-captain in 97 (when we beat Oxford, apparently). Should be a useful addition to the squad this year! The atmosphere at the annual Robinson-Pembroke meeting has vastly improved since 2003, when we met in what was effectively a title decider towards the end of the season. It was a home match for us, andby Rob Cork - College Leagues
Think they've still got Andy Brown and Ed Simpson, but they've lost the powerhouse that is George Penny! I reckon we've got a stronger team this year - we may have lost Chris Coomber, but Adrian (the grad) looks to be a good replacement. Our only real weakness now is in the banter department, I don't think we'll ever recover from the loss of Tom Dyson...by Rob Cork - College Leagues
Yeah, it was a good match (or at least the first 4 frames were, I had to leave after that!) - I came pretty close to losing my singles, and all of the frames I saw could easily have gone either way. We're playing Peterhouse tomorrow (friday) evening, for a chance to establish an early lead at the top of the table ;Dby Rob Cork - College Leagues
We're not doing very well on the predictions at the mo! Results in so far: Selwyn 1 7-2 Sidney 1 Magdalene 1 5-4 King's 1 Magdalene caused a bit of an upset there, and it remains to be seen whether King's form will improve despite their loss of Steve McCann to Churchill!by Rob Cork - College Leagues
Who's up for this then? Closing date for entries is the 3rd November so we'd better get our skates on if we want in. I'm still keen, we've got a month to practice before the actual event ;Dby Rob Cork - Other cuesports
Yeah, there was one of those yesterday, I'm just deleting them as soon as I spot them!by Rob Cork - CUWPC

Yeah, currently 51-48 to Steve in a race to 52... took my foot off the gas at the end just when Steve hit a devestating run of form, so I've left myself with a bit of work to do! Due for completion 4Q 2006...by Rob Cork - Singles Ladder
Awesome, good to hear from you again Si! How do you like the message boards? I'm hoping they'll get a bit busier once the leagues and Cuppers get underway, but they're pretty quiet at the moment. There's just no-one here who can match your legendary powers of chatby Rob Cork - General Board
Well colour me keen, I'm up for it! Might have to go and get some practice first with my 9-ball cue...by Rob Cork - Other cuesports
I just wanted to say a big thank you to Jenny for organising last night, it was much fun! Hope you all had as good a time as I did, even if my head and stomach do feel a bit dodgy today...by Rob Cork - Off Topic
I'll take that as a challenge then - when do you want to play?by Rob Cork - Singles Ladder
Ouch, a defeat like that is never much fun Well done to Alex though, looks like you might have conquered your ladder demons this season?by Rob Cork - Singles Ladder
Didn't go in the end, I got onto a bit of a roll with my latest project of trying to develop a system for automatically uploading league results to the website. Is nearly there, should have it working in time for the new season...by Rob Cork - Other cuesports
Quote'Tis a long walk back from there. Phew. Just thought I'd say a quick thanks to Matt and Rob or whoever organised / paid for all that, really enjoyed it. We do indeed have a new pool table in Queens' (at least, it looks new, it was here when I arrived ???) . It's not quite the same as the ones in the CSC but it is pretty good, I'll check the brand next time I'm down there. Thanks, I'm gby Rob Cork - Other cuesports
Awesome, come along to trials - it really doesn't matter how much experience you have, just pop along and see what the standard's like, and play pool for a few hours for free ;D Also, I've heard that Queens' have just got a nice new table in, possibly even a Supreme (rumour has it) - is this true? I might have to invite myself over to your bar to have a look...by Rob Cork - Other cuesports
Also... University Sports and Social Club, right smack bang in the centre of town, two snooker tables at only £1.50 per hour I haven't played on them yet, but heard that they're ok - for top quality tables, you definitely want to go out to CSC though. There's always quite a few guys asking about snooker at the freshers fair every year. Hopefully these forums will make it easier to get in tby Rob Cork - Other cuesports
