Hey guys,

I'm up for playing ladder friendlies against anyone who is interested in giving me a game. :)

I was uni captain a couple of years ago and play for the Uni A team in the CAPL league and would be happy to give advice/coaching around a friendly match, or feel free to challenge me if you wish to impress and beat me in a first to 15! :P

I look forward to seeing the challenges roll in. :)

Best wishes,

Just a few questions about the competition that has appeared on the CAPL website front page.

Have any uni players played in this before?

What is the standard like?

Just to confirm World 8 Ball Rules are World Rules (not Black Ball?)

This might be a good competition for some of the uni players providing the standard is not insane, only have to go to Great Yarmouth for one day. I will be under 21, just, bday on 8th of March.

The draws have been done for the Cambridge area competitions - pretty good turnout for the uni this year. I also still have one more place at the CAPL Open available if anyone wants it - first come first served.

All of the draws with uni players highlighted are attached to this post, or you can read through them on the CAPL site. First thoughts - a winnable singles venue for Chris with Gary Browne the only other Prem player to worry about. Lorry's got it fairly tough, but Paul's definitely got the short straw (all prem players, venue miles away).

First up is the Open next saturday (22nd). Make sure you check your start time, and I'll see you there.

Good luck to everyone.

The annual novices' tournament will be held shortly, with a provisional date of Sunday, October 12th. Anyone who has never played for Cambridge in varsity and never played in the CUPC Masters tournament is eligible to enter. Other than that, people of all standards and experience levels are welcome.

As usual there will be a group stage and a knockout stage with everyone guaranteed at least three matches. We'll also try to get a few experienced players involved in the group stage only.

This saturday sees the CAPL finals night at CSC. For those of you who don't know what finals night is, there's one at the end of each summer and winter league, and they present all the trophies for that season, have a raffle, play the finals of the mens singles and team knockout events, and just generally get bladdered beyond belief. It's always a good laugh.

I haven't decided if I'm going yet, as I might go to the college bar given that it's the first night that all the freshers will be around and it should be a laugh. If enough people are up for it though I might be persuaded to go to csc instead for finals night, it is less far for me to stumble home afterwards ;)

FORUM RULES

1. Please try to post on the most appropriate board. Any threads posted on an inappropriate board will have to be moved by a moderator, and at the very least may not be seen by the people most likely to be able to answer your question.

2. To reduce confusion and make it easier to arrange events, teams, university singles ladder challenges and so on, please choose a user name that is either your real name or a simple variant and set your location as your college. Users who ignore requests to change their name risk being temporarily or permanently banned by a moderator.

3. Play nice. Despite the wonderful anonymity offered by the internet, remember that there is actually a person at the other end of every username and post, so please avoid any personal comments or attacks that are likely to upset or cause offence.

4. No posting of racist, sexist, or obscene material. Cambridge University Pool Club does not discriminate on the grounds of gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, age, or political views, and will not associate itself with any such comments or views by allowing them to remain on the forums. Anyone breaching this rule will find their post rapidly deleted by a moderator and risks being immediately and permanently banned from the forums.

5. No posting of illegal or copyrighted material. If in doubt, PM a committee member to ask before posting, or just don't post at all.

6. Any users found to be breaking these rules will be issued with a warning by a committee member. Should a second offence occur within a week, that user will be banned for a week. Repeated violation of these rules may result in a permanent ban, at the discretion of the committee.
